A suspected criminal was killed during an alleged encounter with the police in PIB Colony. Police said that the accused was arrested in an injured condition after an exchange of fire during a raid at the criminals' hideout in Old Sabzi Mandi area.
SHO Safdar Mashwani said that the suspect, identified as Yousuf, belonged to a group involved in the Lyari gang war. PIB Colony ASI Tariq was also wounded during the shootout.
Both the suspect and the police officer were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where the injured suspect succumbed to his injuries. The police also claim to have seized weapons from his possession.
Similarly, another suspected member of the Lyari gang war was killed during an exchange of fire with the police in Mauripur. The police had raided the gangsters' hideout near Hawkes Bay when the suspects opened fire on them and tried to escape. The police retaliated and killed one of the gangsters while his companion managed to escape.
Suspects arrested
Separately, two workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement were apprehended during an overnight targeted operation conducted by the paramilitary force in Shah Faisal Colony. The suspects were taken into custody on a tip-off. Similarly, a worker of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi, identified as Nadeem alias Lalu, was arrested during a raid in Malir.
Meanwhile, in an encounter with robbers, Defence police in Phase 1 arrested two dacoits, identified as Sultan and Sohaib, in an injured condition and also recovered pistols from their possession.
