Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Super Eight: Irfan’s four-for rattles Karachi Whites

Team dismissed for 84 in first innings before toughening up in second against SSGC

KARACHI: Muhammad Irfan’s four-wicket haul helped SSGC run through the Karachi Whites’ batting line-up and dismiss them for 84 on the second day of the first round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Super Eight at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi yesterday.

Irfan was supported by Ziaul Haq, who claimed three wickets, while at the end of play Karachi Whites, who were asked to follow on, were on 167-2. Hamza Ghanchi (76) and Faraz Khan (67) were there at stumps.

In another match, a century by Usman Sallahuddin (112) helped NBP post a 279-run first innings total against fellow bankers HBL. HBL’s Abdul Rehman claimed four wickets for 52 runs, while at the end of play, HBL were on 188-1 as Inamul Haq, who was on the crease at stumps, made 87, while Fakhar Zaman contributed with a 74-run knock.

Meanwhile at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad, KRL, who had resumed their first innings on 251-8, could only add 42 more runs to their total before being dismissed for 293. Mir Hamza claimed five wickets, while Hammad Azam and Sadaf Mehdi took two wickets apiece.

Yasir Ali, with his unbeaten 78-run knock, was the top-scorer for KRL.

UBL, meanwhile, were on 223-7 at stumps with vital contributions from Akbarur Rehman (55) and Azam (45). Yasir Mumtaz (32) and Sameen Gul (four) were on the crease at the end of play.

For KRL, Ahmed Bashir took three wickets, while Muhammad Abbas dismissed two batsmen.
