LAHORE: The inquiry committee formed by the government to investigate the news leak controversy pertaining to national security has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.

Petitioner Ishtiaq Chaudhry submitted that the appointment of the committee’s head be declared void as the appointed person had personal relations with the ruling party’s chief and his family.

He requested the court to hand over the responsibility to investigate the news leak matter to an acting judge.

The federal government has formed an inquiry committee to probe the ‘planted’ news story about a high-level huddle on national security published by Dawn last month that claimed the civilian leadership allegedly criticised the military’s policies on militancy. According to sources, the committee will be headed by Justice (retd) Amir Raza Khan, but a notification in this regard has yet to be issued by the interior ministry.

The development came a week after Pervaiz Rashid resigned from his information minister post, following a preliminary investigation established a ‘lapse’ on his part vis-à-vis the publication of the controversial story.
