NA forms committee for restructuring ECP

Twelve-member committee for restructuring the election commission formed by national assembly.

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Tuesday constituted a 12-member Parliamentary Committee for the restructuring of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The committee comprises eight members of the national assembly and four senators.

The 12 members include three from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and three from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) while Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) has two members.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), Awami National Party (ANP) and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) were given a one-member representation in the committee.

The Parliamentary Committee has been formed on the request of PML-N through its 10-pont agenda.

The demand calls for restructuring so that process of submission of nomination papers can be made transparent.
