Fully-fit Kallis ready for West Indies showdown

NEW DEHLI: Jacques Kallis said he was fully fit for the opening World Cup clash against the West Indies.

“Everything has gone according to plan,” said Kallis ahead of tomorrow’s match. “I am 100 per cent fit. In fact, all the guys in the team are fit.”

Kallis, 35, injured his ribs during the home Test series against India and did not bowl in South Africa’s two warm-up games against Australia and Zimbabwe. South Africa have yet to win the showpiece event despite making it to the semi-finals three times.

Australia captain smashes TV: official

The defending champions captain Ricky Ponting smashed a television set in a fit of fury after being run out against Zimbabwe, claimed a local official.

The incident happened after the batsman returned to the dressing room and saw the replay of his dismissal during his team’s 91-run win on Monday.

“It is true that Ponting smashed the LCD TV in the Australian dressing room,” said Gujarat Cricket Association Secretary Rajesh Patel. “We have informed the International Cricket Council as well as the Australian team management.”

Ponting is understood to have apologised, officials said.
