KARACHI: Protesters blocked the main road in the Nazimabad area of Karachi on Sunday, to demonstrate against illegal water connections.

The protestors uprooted these connections saying their legal connections were being affecting by them.

They also demanded the government as well as the department of water and sanitation to take action against the culprits, while urging the department to ensure continuous supply of clean drinking to their houses.

The citizens alleged that influential industrialists were supporting water mafia, allowing them to undertake illegal activities.

Syed | 13 years ago | Reply @ Asif, unfortunately this was done with compliance of Police not CDG. City Government had to lay a new water line from Old Sabzi Mandi to Defence, because it was unable to move police against the Mafia that had captured the Water line going to that area.
Asif | 13 years ago | Reply Rs. 50 Billion (5000 crores) worth of water is sold by the tanker mafia in Karachi every year. This cannot be done without the connivance of the city government. Most of the water is stolen from the main water depot. This is according to a authentic NGO report presented in CBC news.
