RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has sealed two markets on Chakra Road in an operation against illegal construction.

In a statement, the authority said that RDA Superintendent Nadeem Jamal, building inspector Kamran Shahzad and building surveyor Aamir Malik on Monday, with assistance from the Rawalpindi Police and the concerned police station, carried out the operation.

RDA took action against illegal and unauthorised markets which had been built in the commercial area on Chakra Road under provisions of Punjab of Cities Act 1976, and sealed the shops. Each of the markets had 15 shops owned by Abdul Rehman and Chaudhry Jehangir.

The authority’s building control department said that illegal and unauthorised shops, building constructions, and encroachments within the RDA’s jurisdiction are periodically shut.
