Ongoing case: Court reissues warrants for arrest of Sharjeel Memon, 16 others

Suspects have been accused of embezzling Rs5.77 billion in public funds

KARACHI: An accountability court reissued on Wednesday non-bailable warrants for the arrest of former Sindh information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and 16 others in a Rs5.77-billion corruption case.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Memon, former information secretary Dr Zulfiqar Ali Shalwani, deputy directors of information department Anita Baloch and Mansoor Ahmed Rajput, Syed Masood Hashmi of Orient Communication and Inam Akbar of Evernew Concepts and several others have been booked for allegedly embezzling public funds between 2013 and 2015 in public interest advertisement campaigns in the electronic media.

The National Accountability Bureau in a reference, filed on October 1, contended that the investigations revealed that Rs5.77 billion was paid to seven advertisement companies in violation of the Sindh Public Procurement Rules, 2010.
