PML-N intra-party elections mockery of democracy, says Imran

PTI chairman reiterates to gather large number of supporters for the November 2 Islamabad protest

Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan said on Wednesday that there was no democracy in PML-N and that the party’s intra-party elections were a farce.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was elected unopposed as president of Pakistan Muslim League-N. Addressing the party’s central council meeting, Nawaz said those raising the slogan of 'new Pakistan' were only involved in 'container politics'.

Addressing PML-N's central council on Tuesday, Nawaz said that even the people of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, being ruled by PTI, were looking towards them. The premier had also vowed to form his government in the 2018 general elections.



The premier is under the wrong impression about forming a government in 2018 because that day is too far, Imran said. "Thousands of people will gather in Islamabad on November 2," the PTI chairman said. "The people have realised that Nawaz Sharif needs to be held accountable to purge this country of corruption."

PTI chairman earlier said that his protest in the federal capital won't end unless the premier stepped down or returned the 'looted money' to the exchequer.

Leaked documents from the Mossack Fonseca law firm in Panama in April showed several world leaders, including the premier’s three children, Hassan and Hussain and Maryam, owning at least three offshore holding companies registered in the British Virgin Islands.



Imran further said that Nawaz' prolonged rule will only burden Pakistan with more debt, saying it was mandatory to overcome corruption to ensure survival of the country.

He made it clear that the PTI does not oppose China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, saying it only objected why the government started revealing details three years after signing the agreement.

Shahbaz Sharif re-elected PML-N Punjab president

Meanwhile, addressing a gathering of PML-N workers, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said he would “quit politics if a single allegation of corruption was proven against Nawaz Sharif. He termed the threats to shut down the federal capital against Pakistan and a conspiracy against the CPEC project.

“Supreme Court should constitute a full-member bench on the allegations of corruption,” he said. Earlier, Shahbaz Sharif was elected unopposed as the PML-N Punjab president.
