Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, who was representing Pakistan at the World Energy Council (WEC) meeting, met Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim in Istanbul and apprised him about the human rights violations by Indian forces in Occupied Kashmir. Asif also held detailed meetings with presidents of Turkey and Russia on the sidelines of the WEC meeting.

Further, the premier's special envoys, Muhammad Pervez Malik and Mohsin Shah Nawaz Ranjha called on the Turkish Grand National Assembly Speaker Ismail Kahraman and briefed him about the atrocities being committed against defenseless Kashmiris. Turkey reaffirmed its traditional and strong support for the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir.

The envoys also apprised the speaker regarding the recent security situation in IOK, including escalation of tensions along the Line of Control. Kahraman reaffirmed Turkey's consistent support for a negotiated solution of Kashmir within the framework of relevant UN resolutions, while taking into account the legitimate aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
