“Given the massive demand during peak hours and our continued commitment to improving availability of cars when you need a ride the most, Peak Time Pricing will be applicable in Karachi,” the company said in a recent statement.
Careem slashes Karachi prices by 30%
Although peak time pricing entails increased fares for customers during high demand, it is said to improve car availability for urgent users. Once the peak period ends, standard rates apply.
Earlier last month, Uber announced Surge pricing for its services in Pakistan. Careem later followed in Uber’s footsteps to help regulate peak time traffic.
Careem will inform users before applying peak pricing to bookings and will only confirm them once you accept the revised rate. For example, a PKR200 trip under a peak rate of 1.2X converts into a PKR 240 fare (200x1.2:). This policy applies to both, NOW and LATER bookings starting October 7 - for all car types.

It remains to be seen whether such measures will help Careem effectively regulate peak time traffic without compromising demand in Karachi.
