KARACHI: With a multitude of local films gracing cinema screens lately, there are numerous that are either in the pipeline or being announced every second day.

Helmed by Salute director Shahzad Rafique, Yeh Dosti Hai is an upcoming film that will be produced and distributed by IMGC Global Entertainment.

While most of the information regarding the project is being kept under the wraps, Rafique shared the film is a love story. “We are currently working on the script so it’s too early to reveal too much,” he told The Express Tribune.

The movie is based on the friendship between Pakistan and China and the script will be penned by famed writer Amjad Islam Amjad. The music of the film will be composed by Aamir Munawar, who has previously worked on Waar as well as Rafique’s upcoming film Salute.

Rafique revealed the purpose of the project is to help further Pak-China relations. “We value our friendship with China but I feel that there should be more people-to-people communication between the two countries. We already have government-to-government contact but I think there should be more exchanges between people. And films are a source of strengthening the bond,” added Rafique.

Amjad and Rafique previously worked together on the latter’s 2004 hit Salakhain. Commenting on the 12-years-too-late reunion, Rafique stated, “He is a legend in Pakistani drama writing and literature. It’s a great honour to work with him.”

The film will be shot in China and Pakistan and is slated for an Eidul Azha release next year. Meanwhile, Rafique is set to put out Salute in December.
