BAHAWALPUR: Bahawalpur Commissioner Saqib Zafar on Sunday urged officials to speed up the pace of work on 393 development schemes in the district.

He was chairing a meeting to review projects under the provincial development programme at his conference room. Addressing the meeting, he said, “Rs15 billion has been allocated for improvement of infrastructure, reconstruction of schools and provision of basic services to residents of rural areas. Departments working on these projects should waste no time completing their tasks. Unnecessary delays will not be tolerated.”

The meeting was told that the provincial government had provided Rs15 billion for the projects. In the first phase, Rs12 billion had been allocated for 223 ongoing schemes. On completion of these projects, Rs2 billion would be issued for 170 additional schemes.

Officials at the meeting briefed the commissioner about projects being executed by their departments and gave him an overview of public feedback received in this regard.

The commissioner urged them to mobilise all available resources to complete work within stipulated time. “There must be no compromise on quality. Disciplinary action would be taken against officials and contractors caught stealing public money.”
