Deadly virus: Congo patient dies at HFH

RAWALPINDI: A 28-year-old man, who was diagnosed with the Congo Crimean Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) a day earlier, died at the Holy Family Hospital (HFH) on Thursday. Hospital sources said that Zulfiqar Ahmed was brought to the hospital on September 5 after he contracted the disease while buying an animal for Eid at a camel market in Attock. The deceased worked at a furniture workshop in Rawalpindi. His blood samples had been sent to the Nation Institute of Health where he was confirmed with Congo positive. A health official said that the man most likely may have contracted the Congo virus from the cattle market. HFH Medical Superintendent Dr Shafique Sarwa also confirmed the death of the Congo patient. “We tried our level best to save his life but could not,” Dr Sarwar said.
