Inaugural meeting: HMC mayor complains of funds shortage

Mayor also complained of other sources of revenue generation which have been taken away from the HMC

HYDERABAD: Complaining about the shortage of funds and resources, the newly-elected mayor of Hyderabad Metropolitan Corporation vowed on Wednesday to serve the city by upgrading cleanliness efforts, ensuring water supply and drainage and removing encroachments.

"We are the heirs of the city. We will work together with the opposition to address all the problems," said Syed Tayyab Hussain at the inaugural meeting of the HMC. The HMC consists of 96 union committees. The mayor complained that the Sindh government has reduced funds meant for the HMC. "Earlier, we used to get 750 litres of diesel per day for [garbage collecting and disposing] vehicles. But now it has shrunk to only 230 litres." He also complained of other sources of revenue generation which have been taken away from the HMC.
