Medical education: 56,000 to take entrance exam today

UHS has set up 27 centres in 13 cities

LAHORE: As many as 56,000 applicants (36,000 female and 20,000 male) will sit the Punjab Medical and Dental Colleges Entrance Test on Sunday. The test will be conducted by the University of Health Sciences (UHS).

DCOs concerned are responsible for arrangements of the test.The UHS has deputed around 5,000 officials for invigilation and

supervision duties at the test centres. It will held at 27 centres established in 13 cities (Lahore, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sargodha, Gujrat, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Dera Ghazi Khan and Hasanabdal).

The exam will start at 9am. In a press statement, the UHS has advised test takers to reach their respective centres early in the morning to avoid any inconvenience in case of rain. It has said that test takers must reach their centres at least an hour before the commencement of the test. No one will be allowed to enter the centre after 8:15am.

In Lahore, the test will be held at seven centres. These are: Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lawrence Road; the Punjab University examination halls, Wahdat Road; Government Comprehensive Girls High School, Wahdat Road; University of Education, Township; Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Jail Road; Government Postgraduate College for Women, Samanabad; and Government Central Model School, Lower Mall. As many as 16,800 candidates will sit the test at these centres.

The test shall include 220 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) divided in four sections: physics (44 MCQs), chemistry (58 MCQs), English (30 MCQs) and biology (88 MCQs). The test will last two-and-a-half hours. After the test, each candidate will be required to fill a questionnaire to elicit student feedback.

The total marks for the test will be 1,100. Five marks will be awarded for every correct answer. One mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

Speaking to the media about the arrangements, UHS Vice Chancellor Lt Gen (r) Muhammad Aslam said security and logistics arrangements had been finalised in collaboration with the district administration and police. He said the police would carry out extensive patrolling around the test centres. Walk-through gates and cell phone signal jammers will be installed at the entrances and inside test centres, respectively, he added.

He said first aid facilities would be available at all centres to deal with any untoward situation. The staff at the nearest teaching hospital or district headquarters (DHQ) hospital would be put on alert to deal with emergencies, he added. The vice chancellor said arrangements had been made to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the test hours.

He said test takers would not be allowed to bring cell phones, calculators, laptops, watches or notes to the examination centre. He said they were required to bring a copy of the entrance test application form duly stamped by the bank and their roll number slips.
