GILGIT: Residents of Gilgit-Baltistan have been incensed by remarks made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the region. People in Chilas, the main town of Diamer district, took to the streets on Sunday and shouted slogans against Modi. Demonstrators burnt the Indian flag and Modi’s effigy. Earlier, the Indian premier had said the people from G-B had thanked him for highlighting human rights violation in the region. The protest came a day after the legislative assembly of G-B unanimously passed two resolutions. “The Indian PM is against Muslims,” a protester said. He was alluding to atrocities being committed in Kashmir by Indian Army. Condemnations also poured in through social media where activists urged the Indian media not to distort facts.
