The deceased have been identified as Maulana Khawaja Mohammad Hazrat and his son Ali Hazrat. Both of them had been affiliated with an alleged hard-line religious group. “The victims were on their way back home after the Friday prayers when unidentified individuals on motorbike opened fire at them,” a police official said. “They were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital. However, they both succumbed to their injuries.”
The police have registered a case and investigation is under way. Later, the workers and stalwarts of religious group initiated a protest. They took the bodies of the deceased and placed them on the road in front of Balahissar Fort. The protest halted the traffic for several hours on GT Road. They also shouted slogans against the government and law-enforcement agencies.
