Pressing issues: PPP wants discussion on child abductions, National Action Plan

Submits two separate calling attention notices in the National Assembly

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) wants a debate in the National Assembly on the alarming rise in child abductions in Punjab and the slow implementation on the country’s counter terrorism strategy – the National Action Plan (NAP).

The PPP MNAs Imran Zafar Leghari, Nafisa Shah, Aijaz Jakhrani, Shahida Rehmani and Shugufta  Jummani have submitted two separate calling attention notices with the assembly’s secretariat to put these issues on agenda of proceedings.

“Under Rule 88 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 2007, we, the undersigned, invite the attention of the minister concerned towards the alarming rise in child abductions in Punjab.

“This heinous trend exposes the fragility of our security sector and creates an air of fear and insecurity throughout the country, therefore needs immediate attention of the house,” reads one of the notices.

Through another notice, the PPP wants the house to discuss the slow progress on the NAP and its effects on the achievements under operation Zarb-e-Azb.

Last week army chief General Raheel Sharif had also expressed his concern over lack of implementation on the NAP. Later, the government on Monday formed a NAP implementation committee under a retired general to oversee the overall progress on the 20-point policy.
