ISLAMABAD: A day after a strong-worded rebuttal was issued by Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri in response to India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rhetoric on provincial law and order, the Balochistan government has asked the government in Islamabad to take serious notice of the Modi’s remarks.

“The second statement within two days on Balochistan by Modi is an admission that India, as a matter of its policy, has continuously been backing the scoundrels in the province,” Balochistan government's spokesperson Anwarul Haq Kakar told The Express Tribune on Tuesday.

He said that the Indian premier’s statement vindicated Pakistan’s claim about Indian involvement in fuelling unrest in Balochistan. “For us Modi’s remarks are not less than a confessional statement of his country’s meddling in Balochistan.”

The spokesperson confirmed that the provincial government has asked the federal government to take up the said “confessional statement” at a proper forum to further expose the destructive role of the nuclear-armed neighbour in the province.

Referring to Modi’s public address on the occasion of India’s 70th Independence Day, Kakar said that the Indian prime minister has openly admitted his country’s role in instigating native insurgents to subvert peace in the province. “In his address the prime minister [Modi] talked about the situation in Balochistan and claimed the people of the province thanked him for raising their issue.”

It is not the first time that Modi has admitted India’s involvement in the internal affairs of a Pakistani province, he said, adding, “He made a similar confessional statement last year about fall of the East Pakistan in 1971.”

The spokesperson further emphasised the role of the India’s premier intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), in fuelling unrest in the province.

He added: “It is not the first time the provincial government is pointing out the subversive activities of RAW in Balochistan, leaders of the previous provincial and the federal government have also repeatedly exposed the agency’s role at various national and international forums with irrefutable evidence.”
