KARACHI: The body of a nine-year-old girl who went missing about two weeks ago was found from a garbage dump in Machhar Colony on Monday.

The girl, identified as R*, went missing on July 15 while she was playing outside her house in Machhar Colony, within the limits of Docks police station. R*'s father Luqman, who is Bengali and a fisherman by profession, had filed a missing person complaint with the police the same day. However, the police were not able to find her.

The body was found by people residing near the garbage dump and informed the police. Docks SHO Amin Marri confirmed that the family identified the victim with the help of her clothes.

The body was then taken to Civil hospital for autopsy where doctors said that the body was at least seven days old and the girl was strangled to death. The doctors ruled out the possibility that the girl was subjected to rape during the initial examination. However, they took the samples and sent them for examination.

Marri while quoting the initial investigation informed that the girl was killed at an undislosed location and later her body was apparently thrown on the night between Sunday and Monday.

It seems that some personal matter or old enmity could have been the reason behind the incident, said the police. No arrest was made till the filing of this news story.
