PM vows to make country secure for every citizen

Nawaz chairs high-level meeting to review internal security and implementation of NAP across country

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday expressed his resolve to make Pakistan secure for every single citizen of the country irrespective of ethnicity and religion.

Chairing a top-level huddle to review the current security situation at the PM House, the premier said, “The country has embarked upon a right track and we will enable every citizen to reap the benefits of a secure, stable and prosperous Pakistan,” the premier was quoted as saying.

PM Nawaz lauded role of the law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and security in the country. “Terrorists and extremists elements are receding from the country due to countless sacrifices rendered by our valiant LEAs, unflinching resolve of the entire nation and efforts of the federal and provincial governments.”

Terming the extremist ideology a global threat, the prime minister said: “Pakistan has confronted the blow back of terrorists for several years being the front-line state in war on terror.”



“No other country has suffered to the extent Pakistan has been affected socially and economically while fighting the scourge of terrorism and extremism,” he added.

Commenting on the success of ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb, the premier said the world has acknowledged the overall security situation of the country has significantly improved due to Zarb-e-Azb.

Nawaz further said the federal government will facilitate the provincial governments by effective coordination and intelligence sharing through federal agencies in dealing with internal security issues.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Chaurdhy Nisar Ali Khan, National Security Adviser Nasser Khan Janjua, DG ISI Lt-Gen Rizwan Akhtar, DG Intelligence Bureau Aftab Sultan and other senior government officials.

The meeting comes over a week after the premier presided over a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) following his return to the capital after an absence of nearly two months. The committee had deliberated on several important internal and regional security issues, including the recent violation of human rights by Indian security forces in the occupied Kashmir, Pak-Afghan border security situation and intelligence based operations (IBOs) across the country and Karachi in particular.
