SUKKUR: Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah has said his government is committed to rooting out terrorism, lawlessness, corruption and crime from the province and to do so the Rangers and police are carrying out a joint operation. He said this while speaking to the media on Sunday in Garhi Khuda Bux.

According to him, the curse of corruption is not new and has existed even before the partition of the Subcontinent. "The Sindh government and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) are endeavouring to root out corruption and corrupt people from the province," he said.

"The federal government has resorted to injustice towards the smaller provinces by not granting the NFC award," said Shah, adding that as chief minister he will try to get Sindh its due share under the next NFC award. He thanked the PPP leadership for placing their trust in him and electing him as chief minister and assured that he will make efforts to meet their expectations.

"My motto is to serve, serve and serve the people. My duty is to live among the people and serve them, therefore what is the need of protocol?" he said.

Earlier, the CM visited the Bhutto mausoleum and laid floral wreaths at the graves of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto and others and offered prayers.  Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Sikandar Mandhro, Jam Mehtab Dahar, Jam Khan Shoro, Suhail Anwar Sial, Maula Bux Chandio and other members of the Sindh cabinet accompanied the CM.

Rangers visit

Strongly condemning a terrorist attack on the vehicle of the paramilitary force in Larkana on Saturday, the CM said that the Rangers and police are doing a good job in curbing terrorism. Shah also visited the Rangers headquarters in Sukkur and inquired about the wellbeing of the officials who were injured in the bomb blasts.

Young at heart

The CM received a round of applause from party leaders and workers when he jumped across a table with the help of Chandio.

Eyewitnesses said the tables and chairs had been arranged at the mausoleum for a media talk. As soon as the CM came out of the mausoleum, he entered the area left for cameramen instead of moving around to reach his own chair.

The party leaders and workers kept asking him to come out and go to his chair from the outside but due to the rush of media persons and party workers it was difficult for him to back away.

So, Shah, using Chandio's shoulder, jumped up and reached his chair by vaulting the table. Shoro and Wahab Riaz followed suit and also jumped the table to reach their seats.
