According to District Central deputy commissioner Captain (retd) Fariduddin Mustafa, under whose supervision the operation is going on, around 800 meter area of the nullah have been cleaned from all forms of encroachments.
He said that the operation will start every day at 9am and would continue till 5pm, for around six months. In order to safeguard it from getting encroached again, he said that they would construct 10 meter wide road along the nullah.
Meanwhile, Sindh's minister for local government, Jam Khan Shoro said that they have targeted the five big nullahs of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and for now encroachments at Gujjar Nullah are being removed.
He also assured that they will widen Gujjar Nullah by 40 feet for now.
He also directed Mustafa to clean the 10-feet space on both sides of the nullah and make space for the heavy machinery to go inside and clean it, so that the Gujjar Nullah could flow easily towards the Lyari River.
According to Shoro the solid waste in the city is unable to reach the landfill sites. He said that soon the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board will be made functional.
