KARACHI/SUKKUR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) activists took Kashmir Day as an opportunity to vent their shame over the administration’s continued failure to catch Benazir Bhutto’s killers.

“Bibi teray qatil zinda hain, aur hum sharminda hain.” They shouted as Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah gave his speech at the Arts Council, Karachi on Saturday. Another group of activists also stood up to protest the arrest of their colleague within the jurisdiction of Aram Bagh police station. The CM decided to cut short his speech and leave.

During his speech, the chief minister said that “our prime demand has been to give the people of Kashmir a right to vote, so that they can make their own decision”. He recalled that when he was the federal minister for Kashmir affairs during the first government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, he used to receive fortnightly reports on the progress of the Kashmir issue.

Earlier, PPP Senator Raza Rabbani said that India wants to be a “policeman” in the region but its dream will not come true. “Those countries who patronise India should keep in mind that they are supporting the biggest violators of human rights.”

All Parties Hurriyat Conference’s Mir Tahir Masood said that it was mentioned in the Constitution of Pakistan that after the independence of Kashmir, its residents would decide whether they want to be a part of Pakistan or live independently.

JUP and JI organise rally for Kashmir day

Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) workers organised a rally and demonstration at the Sukkur clock tower roundabout to celebrate Kashmir Solidarity Day. They shouted slogans against India.

JUP leader Musharraf Mehmood Qadri, JI leaders Maulana Hizbullah Jhakro and Ghulam Ghous Ghazi said that Kashmiris are oppressed and have been subjected to the worst atrocities for the last 63 years. “Thousands of innocent Kashmiris have been killed and hundreds of Kashmiri women have been dishonoured by Indian forces,” said one speaker.
