SP changes statement on BB murder probe

ISLAMABAD:

SP Ashfaq Anwar, who was overseeing the security of Ms. Bhutto's election rally in Rawalpindi, has changed his statement that he gave to the UN inquiry commission.

Mr Ashfaq had told the UN commsion that he was present at the site of Benazir Bhutto's assassination.

But now he has told the Fact Finding Committee that he was forcibly sent away by the then CCPO Saud Aziz from the venue.

Sources say SP Ashfaq Anwar concealed real facts from the UN commission owing to pressure from Aziz.

Fakhar | 14 years ago | Reply All those police, security and agencies men whose names have surfaced in UN Report should be immediately arrested and proper investigation should be initiated.A high level Commission comprising of Gen Rtd Naseerullah Babar, former Chief Justice Sajad Ali Shah and Asima Jehangir should be formed to make accountable all those responsible for assassination of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed.It is painful that all those named by the UN Commission are still moving as free men and enjoying full backing of establishment and changing their statements as conveniently as they are playing a game of bluf.One can understand the institutional pressures to save the skin of few people but government should not scumb to such pressure.The institutions in question should dissassociate themselves from the master minds of our national tragedy.It will help the institutions to restore their image.
