Amir returns to Lord’s

KARACHI: The Pakistan-England Test series is all set to explode into action on July 14, with stakes high especially for the visitors, who would be looking to wash out the stigma of the spot-fixing scandal of their previous tour in 2010.

It’s been almost six years that the incident happened at the home of cricket, Lord’s, and the culprits — Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir have all served their punishments for the crime, but it seems that the world has not forgiven them, specially the people of England.

From the trio, only Amir is part of the Pakistan squad and he has been under the scrutiny by the English media, which has been severe, using his tainted past in headlines, write-ups and shows to pile pressure on him and the team.

While on the one hand they may be right, on the other, they are stretching things, perhaps to ensure they come out on top as a result of the mind games which have begun before the actual battle.

However, as Pakistanis we all must support Amir since he is now an important part of the squad and if Pakistan are to do anything substantial on this hostile tour of England, Amir would be our main weapon.
