“It is now ready to host international level competitions,” the handout read, adding the sports complex will provide people with opportunities which were not available to them in the past.
The sports complex in Charsadda is the second largest international level facility in the province after Qayyum Stadium situated in Peshawar. It has been completed at a cost of Rs490 million over the course of two years and is now open for public.
Recreation: 40 sports grounds for Sahiwal
Besides the sports complex, work on a hockey field in Mardan has been completed. “The hockey ground was a sick project that was revitalised by the incumbent government,” the handout stated. It read the hockey ground, which cost Rs67.69 million, will be helpful in promoting sports activities in the district.
The handout further read the provincial government was working on establishing playgrounds in tehsils. A total of 75 grounds are likely to be established – work on 33 grounds has started and so far 25 grounds are ready to be played in. The management committees of the respective facilities will take over the charge soon.
The directorate of sports is constructing a shopping plaza at Qayyum Sports Complex, which would cost Rs80.5 million. However, it was delayed because funds were not available and there were some issues from the contractor’s side. The project, once completed, will provide revenue for sports activities in the province.
