The funeral was arranged by Advocate Asad Abbasi, who heads the Human Rights Committee of the Punjab Bar Council in Rawalpindi.
Attendees included former PML-N MNA Malik Shakeel Awan, local PML-N leader Sajjad Khan and a number of lawyers and other citizens.
Talking to media after the funeral, Abbasi said that they wanted to highlight Edhi’s services for the poor. He said that the lawyers wanted to salute the social worker and philanthropist.
Awan said that Edhi had set a precedent for others to follow. He said Edhi would be remembered for ever for his many works, and that the political leaders also needed to follow suit and pay more heed to social work.
A police contingent was also on duty outside the historic park to provide security to people attending the event.
