MUMBAI: At the trailer launch of Akira, actor Sonakshi Sinha shared it feels amazing to carry such a film on her shoulders through a role she feels she was born to do. While she mentioned she worked really hard for her character in the film, Sinha was ecstatic to have worked with director AR Murugadoss.

“It feels more than great. It feels amazing. It feels that I was waiting for this moment and I was born to do this. It’s been a lot of handwork for me to look the way I’ve looked in the film,” said Sinha, who was also part of Murgadoss’s last Bollywood hit, Holiday.

“I really want to thank Murugadoss sir, who has worked with the best action heroes in our country. He trusted me with this kind of a film. He is a fantastic director to work with. I was pleasantly surprised when he came to me with this film and he said that we’ll turn it around and make it a women-centric, hard-hitting film about this girl’s character.”

The film sees Sinha’s character coming to Mumbai from Jodhpur, where she gets into a tiff with the gangsters of the college she enrols in. The story is about her fight to come out of a case, where the college goons, a corrupt cop played by Anurag Kashyap and another played by Konkona Sen Sharma, play crucial components. “It has got a couple of tracks, there’s Anurag’s track, there is Konkona’s track and my track and they are all interconnected in some way so it’s a really cool Murugadoss thriller,” added Sinha.

According to the Dabangg actor, her parents really also liked the script of Akira. “I love to watch action films and be a part of them, so I was more than happy to do it. When I narrated the story to mom and dad, they too liked it because it was a very good, gripping story … a story of a single girl’s struggle and fight,” stated Sinha. Overall the role is very powerful, so they were also very happy and there was no reason for me to say no to this film.”

Having worked with superstars such as Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn in numerous films in the past, Sinha disclosed she has learnt different action stints from these actors. Asked who her favourite amongst the three is, she said, “Dabangg is Salman, Rowdy is Akshay and Sardar is Ajay. The past five years I’ve been working with these guys and I have learnt only fighting from them. It’s truly been a pleasure watching them do the action on screen.”

Whether she took any special tips from her Holiday co-star Kumar, Sinha shared, “The biggest tip that he gave me was to stay away from injuries, which I was not able to follow. But he is a very sensible person when it comes to understanding proper form and martial arts.”

Sinha encountered numerous injuries including three major ones — on her wrist, knee and back — on the sets of Akira. “It’s very strenuous and very gruelling. But it’s all worth it,” Sinha concluded.
