Two shot by litigants in rape-abduction case

BAHAWALPUR: A man and his son were shot dead and their relative was injured on their way back from a court hearing on Saturday. Police said the litigants of the case had shot them to take revenge.

Fida Hussain, 70, a resident of Kotla Basti, near Rahim Yar Khan, his son Muhammad Asif, 30, and their relative Muhammad Rafiq had travelled to Liaquatpur in a rented car to attend the hearing of Hussain’s son Rashid. Police said Rashid had been accused of abducting a woman for ransom and raping her. On their way back from the hearing, near Gasura Adda, Muhammad Rafiq, Abdul Hakeem, Nazeer Ahmad and an unidentified person stopped their car and shot at it. Hussain and Asif died on the spot and their relative was seriously injured. He was taken to Shaikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan for treatment.

Police said the attackers were the litigants in the case. One of the attackers was the uncle of the woman Rashid is accused of abducting and raping, police said. They said Rashid had taken Rs300,000 as ransom from them. Pakka Laraan police have registered a case against three nominated suspects and are investigating.
