Final resting place: SU’s former VC laid to rest

Sindh University’s former vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Abida Taherani, who passed away at the age of 61 years in a hospital in UK on June 1, was laid to rest on Saturday afternoon. She was buried near the mausoleum of Dr Allama II Kazi and his wife Elsa Kazi in the varsity’s premises. The funeral prayer was attended by the vice-chancellors, faculty, administrative and lower staff of several universities of Karachi, Hyderabad and Jamshoro districts as well as political leaders and civil society representatives. Prof Taherani, who worked in different capacities in the SU for 39 years, was appointed as the VC in January 2015 for a tenure of four years. But the late was VC was already battling cancer before her appointment to the second biggest university in the province. The SU is observing a week of mourning since June 2.
