Former Pakistan coach and chief selector Mohsin Khan said on Wednesday that he believes in Pakistani batsmen’s ability to perform well in the upcoming tour of England.

In an interview with PakPassion.net, the 61-year-old said that Pakistani batsmen have exhibited great performances under English conditions in the past which serves as an inspiration for current players for their upcoming tour.

“Every batting line-up in the world struggles in England because the ball swings,” he said.

“However, in the past, batsmen like Majid Khan, Zaheer Abbas, Inzamamul Haq and Aamir Sohail performed tremendously well in England, so it can be done again by our players,” he added.

The former chief selector said the tour of England provides great opportunity for youngsters to make their mark and prove themselves indispensable to the national side.

“This is the time where you have to show guts because performing in England is very difficult,” he said.

“Any batsman can perform in easy conditions, but the classy ones are those who perform in difficult places,” he added.

Khan further praised veterans Misbahul Haq and Younus Khan, who have maintained their fitness levels; however he criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not finding good future replacements for the duo.

“Misbah and Younus are fit cricketers, but there aren’t any replacements for them at the moment,” he said.

“The current management hasn’t introduced any new batsmen who would fit their role in the future,” he added.

Mohsin Khan is widely popular for his role as Pakistan’s interim coach in three match white-wash of England in 2012 Test series in UAE. Prior to this, he was also appointed as chief selector of national side in 2010.
