Additional district and sessions judge Central, Rashida Siddiqui, had handed down capital punishment to Ahsan Bangash in March, 2014. The court had found him guilty of setting his wife Erum on fire by sprinkling petrol on her body in 2011. The 32-year-old woman was shifted to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The prosecution had alleged that Bangash, a resident of Karachi’s Yousuf Plaza locality, had burnt and locked his wife inside the kitchen. Upon hearing her cries of pain, neighbours rushed to the spot and took her to the hospital.
