LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) will construct a two-lane underpass at the Gurumangat railway crossing to facilitate smooth flow of traffic between the Gulberg and Cantonment areas.

The new underpass will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs103.3 million. The two-way underpass will be connected with Hussain Chowk through Kasuri Road.

The underpass will be 13.6 metres wide. The height of the proposed underpass is 3.1 metres. Heavy vehicles like buses and trucks will not be able to traverse the structure.

Around 40,000 vehicles will use the planned underpass daily. The LDA will fund the project. Of its total cost, the LDA will spend Rs7 million on land acquisition and Rs5 million on shifting utilities.

In March LDA announced it will build a bypass from the point where Defence Road touches Multan Road to Sharaqpur at Lahore–Jaranwala Road in Sheikhupura district.

The initiative will be executed on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis. The authority has also floated a request for proposal (RFP) solicitation from local and foreign firms in connection with the project.

Ejaz Ahmed | 7 years ago | Reply 3.1m height is stupid. Height should be at least two and a half times that so that all modes of traffic is able to pass thru. Do it once and do it right. A low level structure may be cost expedient but it will cost more in the long run and it will be time consuming for other traffic such as trucks and buses.A proper engineering study and analysis is required.
