LAHORE: Some political groups are trying to create hurdles in the development of the country, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday.

Talking to several Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmakers, the chief minister said that the country was moving towards progress and prosperity.

“The PML-N government has saved billions of rupees by maintaining transparency and high standards in the implementation of development projects. The Punjab government is committed to accountability, honesty and transparency,” he said.

The CM said that some of the political opponents of the government were trying to stop the process of national development. “However, politically sensible people of Pakistan will foil all such conspiracies,” he said.

He said that the government had saved public money by negotiating with the lowest bidders for various projects. “There is no other example of such a practice in the history of the country. Public money is a trust of the nation. All funds are being spent only on public welfare projects. Billions of rupees are being utilised on speedy development of the province,” he said. The chief minister said that it was the PML-N’s objective to serve the people. “The government is committed to provision of relief to the masses,” he said. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N government had set new examples of merit and transparency. “At least Rs215 billion of the nation has been saved in energy, transport and infrastructure projects of federal and Punjab governments. These funds are being spent on health, education and infrastructure projects. The present leadership is free from corruption,” he said. He said the government had introduced a culture of saving national resources.
