LAHORE: The Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) is all set to celebrate its 94th Founder’s Day on Thursday (today). Punjab Higher Education Minister Zakia Shahnawaz will be the chief guest at the events that will be held to mark the day. In her message on the Founder’s Day, Vice Chancellor Dr Uzma Qureshi said that her team was confident of coping with challenges in higher education. “Our goal is academic excellence, financial sustainability and empowering of our graduates through unified strategic planning, stimulating academic programmes, research and innovation,” she said. The LCWU was established on May 5, 1922 as an intermediate residential college. It was originally housed at a building on Hall Road, with a total of 60 students and 13 staff members. By 1950, the students’ strength had increased to 600. The college was then shifted to the present building on Jail Road. The LCWU now has more than 10,000 students. It became an autonomous body in 1990 and was elevated to the status of a university on September 10, 2002.
