KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) restrained on Monday the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) management from taking any action against 200 employees appointed or regularised under the Prime Minister's directives in 2012. The division bench also issued notices to the KPT chairperson, ports and shipping secretary and others to file comments by May 6. Around four identical petitions were filed by KPT employees challenging show-cause notices issued to them on April 26 this year. The petitioners said they were appointed or regularised following directives issued by the then prime minister but KPT issued them show-cause notices seeking explanations as to why their appointments should not be cancelled.

Issuing notices on the petitions, the bench restrained the KPT management from taking any adverse action till the next hearing. Comments were also called from the ports and shipping secretary and the KPT chairman by May 6.
