ISLAMABAD:

A district and sessions court on Wednesday awarded physical custody remand of Krishan Kumar, the alleged rapist of a physically-challenged girl admitted at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), into police custody for three days.

Judicial magistrate Waqas Ahmad Raja sent the suspect on remand after the police produced him in court.

The Special Investigation Unit arrested the suspect in Haripur on April 12.

A rape case has already been registered against him at Karachi Company Police Station.

The woman was admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Pims when Kumar allegedly assaulted her.

The police said that Kumar was a habitual offender who had been arrested on separate charges earlier and had also spent time behind bars in another alleged rape.

The police said that the earlier rape case against Kumar was registered at Margalla Police Station.
