Arms control: Cache of weapons seized

The DPO said two Kalashnikov rifles, 14 pistols and 6,000 bullets were seized

A man was arrested and a cache of weapons was seized by Dera Ghazi Khan police in a search operation on Friday.


DPO Atta Muhammad told a press conference that Taunsa police was tipped off about an arms purchase deal. He said they were told that the weapons were being transported to south Punjab from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.


He said the police were directed to set up pickets across the city. He said a police team had searched a car around 9am in Cantt. He said weapons were found in a hidden compartment in the trunk of the car. He said Sohail Qadirzai, the driver, who was also identified as the principal of a private school in Abbotabad was arrested. The DPO said two Kalashnikov rifles, 14 pistols and 6,000 bullets were seized. He said a team had been formed to investigate the matter.
