Farmers’ demands: ‘Wheat procurement should be increased’
The SCA complained that delay in the official wheat buying and the related exploitation of the growers
HYDERABAD:
Farmers have called for increasing the Sindh government’s wheat procurement target by around 40% to 1.5 million tons. The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA), a lobbying group of agriculturists, termed on Sunday the official target of buying 1.1 million tons of wheat as ‘insubstantial’. The SCA complained that delay in the official wheat buying and the related exploitation of the growers, who are being paid Rs1,100 against the Rs1,300 government rate for 40 kilogrammes, has already affected them.
