“Pakistan has an advantage over India because of latter’s defeat against New Zealand in the opening match of the tournament,” said Younis.
“They have lost the last game and they must be worried that they can get knocked out of the tournament. That’s a huge worry especially when you are playing in your home ground,” he said.
“It’s an added pressure on them,” Younis added.
Stunned in Nagpur: Spin pins kingpins
The national coach further said that Pakistani bowlers can be real “game changers” in the tournament. “Even though Bumrah and Nehra are brilliant bowlers, we take edge with the pace given our bowlers can bowl up to 145-150 km/hr. Apart from Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz can also be a match winner for us,” he said.
Responding to a question about poor batting performance in the past, Younis cited the innings against Bangladesh as an example where Pakistan crossed the 200-run mark. “Since we made 200-plus runs in the last match, I am not really worried about batting performance anymore. No team has crossed that mark in this tournament so far,” he said.
After all is Shahid and done, Pakistan win
The former fast bowler also praised Imad Wasim, who is has been making a name for himself in the spin department.
Responding to a question why skipper Shahid Afridi didn’t make an appearance at the press conference, the national coach jokingly said that it is perhaps because he is asked tough questions.
