PESHAWAR: Professor Dr Iftikhar Hussain, vice chancellor for University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, stressed upon the faculty to provide the best of education. He said this while addressing a function organised by Engineering University Teachers’ Association (EUTA) in his honour after he took charge as the vice chancellor on Tuesday.

Hussain said there were a number of issues that still need to be resolved. “Since I am from the same faculty and I know the issues you face, I assure you they will be resolved,” a press release issued quoted him as saying.

Hussain said soon after he became the vice chancellor, he took up the issue of accreditation with Pakistan Engineering Council on “war footing”. He also promised to address problems of faculty members on contract.

The VC announced the decentralisation of staff scrutiny, saying it would be done by the chairperson of the relevant department. There would be a “one-man, one-position” policy in the university, said Hussain.

Earlier, Dr Abdul Shakoor, president for EUTA, congratulated Hussain on becoming the vice chancellor. On behalf of the UET faculty, he assured Hussain of full support in taking the university to new heights in the field of engineering. He also demanded the regularisation of the contract teaching staff.

Professor Dr Noor Muhammad, dean for faculty of engineering at UET Peshawar, Professor Dr Inayatullah Babar, university’s registrar, and a large number of faculty members were also present on the occasion.
