LOS ANGELES: In new ‘faith film’ Miracles from Heaven, Hollywood actor Jennifer Garner plays the role of Christy Beam, a mother of a young girl named Annabel (Kylie Rogers) who is diagnosed with an incurable and painful disease.

As the story of the film goes, the pressure on the young family mounts as Annabel has to undergo numerous hospital appointments and procedures. However, one day she is involved in a freak accident and hits her head after falling from a tree. Upon being brought to the hospital, Annabel’s doctors discover she has somehow been cured.

The film is based on a true story. “I mean, there is a reason there’s a movie and book about it,” said Garner in an interview. “It’s not a small thing that happened. It’s a really big thing that happened, that this child could not be cured of something that’s incurable but freed from the pain she had had for so many years,” she added.

The mother of three admitted she had a moment of skepticism when she first heard the story. “I think maybe, I had a moment of cynicism about it but not when I met Christy and certainly not when I met Annabel.” Garner also went on reveal how Miracles from Heaven managed to restore her own faith and compelled her to go to church again. “The film did bring faith back into the conversation of my life and it did make realise that my children weren’t just going to get this via osmosis. My parents had given it to me. I realised it actually has to be intentional to participate in it,” said the 43-year-old star. “I think I had been lazy about it so I got off of my duff. We had a conversation and found a church we loved, where we have been embraced completely and are really happy,” added Garner.

Miracles from Heaven is slated to release across North America on March 14 (today).
