KARACHI:

As many as 704 engineers and officers of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) will elect the 10 office-bearers and 11 executive committee members of the board's Engineers and Officers Association on Tuesday.

The winning candidates will be elected for a period of two years. According to presidential candidate Muhammad Aslam Khan, who is backed by the 'United' panel, the elections are being held after a gap of 20 years since the last time they were held was in 1996. "Our panel would like to work for the general welfare of the engineers and officers of the department and will also try to bring out a positive image of KWSB in public," he said.

Another candidate vying for the post of president backed by the 'Friends' panel, Ghulam Qadir Abbas, said that he wants to revive the KWSB Officers' Club and the training centre for the employees of the board. "We want to start the healthy activity of electioneering and can bring reforms in our department [through elections]," said Abbas.

Meanwhile, 'Alamal', a third panel whose president Muhammad Ali is also contesting for the post of the association's president, could only announce 17 office-bearers and executive committee members instead of the total 21 members.
