Anti-Encroachment Drive: Three injured in clash with police

Unidentified protesters opened fire, injuring at least three persons, including eight-year-old Obaidullah

KARACHI: Three people, including an eight-year-old boy, were wounded on Thursday when an anti-encroachment drive in Surjani Town turned violent. Four policemen were also wounded after a mob threw stones at them during the drive. A Karachi Municipal Corporation anti-encroachment team was evicting encroachers on industrial land occupied by the land mafia in Surjani Town when a score of Saiful Marri Goth residents gathered and pelted the team with stones. According to the police, the mob had been approached by the land mafia and due to the attack, the drive was halted. During the scuffle between the police and crowd, unidentified protesters opened fire, injuring at least three persons, including eight-year-old Obaidullah.
