Kasur Child Abuse: Case referred to sessions court

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday directed the police to remove Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) provisions from an FIR registered in the Kasur child abuse case and referred the case for hearing to the sessions court. The counsel for the suspects submitted that ATA sections had been added to the FIR under pressure from some media personnel and politicians. He dismissed as baseless all charges against his clients and said that they had not sexually assaulted any child. He said the prosecution had failed to bring evidence implicating his clients in the matter. He said the insertion of ATA sections in the FIR was not justified. He requested the court to direct the police to remove the ATA sections from the FIR and refer the matter to a regular court. Last year, the Kasur police had arrested a number of people for their alleged involvement in the matter.
