LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday restrained the Revenue Department from recovering tax from farmers on their agriculture income. Iqbal Ahmad and some other farmers had filed petitions submitting that they had been paying agriculture tax to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). They said the provincial Revenue Department had been issuing them notices for the payment of tax. They petitioners said the department was not authorised to collect the tax. They requested to the court to set aside the notices. Justice Ayesha A Malik stayed the recovery of the impugned tax and sought a reply from the government and other respondents by February 3.
