Girl’s death: Hospital report says probe a police concern

A seven-year old girl was found dead in a hospital washroom

RAWALPINDI: A probe team of the Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) has said that the seven-year old girl who was found dead in a hospital washroom on Wednesday was not admitted to the hospital.

An inquiry committee comprising BBH AMS (admin) and nursing superintendent has, in its report, said that the girl had come to visit his infant siblings, who were admitted to the BBH children’s ward. The inquiry committee has said the girl left the ward with her mother on the morning of January 20 and was later found dead in a washroom of the ward.

The committee said that since the girl was not admitted, her death was not the hospital’s concern. It said police will investigate and determine the cause of death.

The report has been presented to BBH Medical Superintendent Dr Asif Qadir Mir.

The victim was identified as Nimra Saeed. She hailed from Gujar Khan.

“A circular mark was found on the neck of the victim, which suggested that she had been suffocated with a shawl,” Mir had told The Express Tribune on Wednesday.

“I left my wife and daughters, including Nimra, at the hospital while I went to get breakfast. When I got back, I found my daughter dead in the washroom,” the MS quoted Saeed Qureshi, the father of the victim, as saying.
