LAHORE:

Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a petition seeking the disqualification of Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan, the UC-107 Lahore chairman-elect.

The petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Azhar Siddique, said that the respondent (Hassaan) had held various positions at several public sector departments.

“Under Section 27 of the Local Government Act 2013, a person who has held an office of a statutory body controlled by a provincial government is not eligible to contest local government elections before the lapse of two years,” he said.

He requested the court to declare Hassaan’s nomination void and disqualify him.

The court asked Hassaan’s counsel to argue his case. However, he requested the court to give him time to prepare. Justice Shahid Karim accepted the request and adjourned the hearing till March 7.
